New Orleans and Haiti have long shared deep historical, linguistic, and cultural ties. This program seeks to honor and reinvigorate those connections through language education, community engagement, and public cultural programming. Launching the program in New Orleans – a city originally known as Bulbancha, meaning “the place of many tongues” in the Choctaw language – echoes the city’s enduring legacy as a unique crossroads of cultures.
We are proud of this groundbreaking cultural and educational initiative led in partnership with Twin Sisters Reunited (TSR).
“This initiative is about more than just language,” said Vladimir Laborde, CEO of Twin Sisters Reunited. “It’s about reconnection – between people, cultures, and histories that have always been intertwined.”

Twin Sisters Reunited (TSR) is a binational organization based in Haiti and New Orleans, committed to advancing cultural exchange, international collaboration, trade, and community development. Since securing the Sister City agreement between Cap-Haïtien and New Orleans in 2019, TSR has launched impactful programs including the Sister City Mural at the French Market and the forthcoming Anténor Firmin Cultural Centre in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti.
Rooted in the shared histories of the two cities, TSR champions cultural diplomacy and long-term cooperation through initiatives like French
& Kreyòl Koneksyon for Success,
which deepen ties between Haitian and Francophone communities through education and the arts.
This partnership is made possible through generous support from the Embassy of France and the Albertine Foundation’s French Heritage Language Program (FHLP), which helps francophone immigrants and young Americans with francophone backgrounds maintain their linguistic and cultural heritage.
